Filemaker Feature Requests

I just posted two feature requests here for "a future version" of Filemaker Pro, whenever that future version may become available and if they, Filemaker Inc., even take their client's feedback seriously. My Feature Requests:

  • Scheduled server side e-mail send and receive

  • Native document upload
For both of these you need to use third party plugins, which can be difficult to work with and unreliable.
But most importantly I wish they would do something about Filemaker scalability and dependance on the FMP client. Who needs client/server applications any more when everything is moving to the "No Software" model. Filemaker is just trying to make a quick buck off of selling a few extra client applications. How old fashioned and 20th Century!
If Filemaker Inc would only realize how close they are to building a development environment for web-based applications for the Rest of Us...

I Lost my Blog!

What a bummer! I posted my First blog entry last weekend on peterschwarz.blogspot.com and for some reason my account credentials were lost! So now I created a new location petererikschwarz.blogspot.com. I also contacted Blogger support (I really had to dig for their e-mail address, but I have should have guessed it: support@blogger.com) and asked them to find my account credentials.

New England was hit by the first major snowstorm today, first snow, then sleet, then icy rain. Yuck! A normal half hour drive took me one hour, and shortly after I arrived I just turned around and went back home because I didn't want to get stuck in the muck.

Happy Valentine's Day!

A portrait of English poet Geoffrey Chaucer by Thomas Hoccleve (1412). The earliest known link between Valentine's Day and romance is found in Chaucer's poetry.

Schwarzster

I have sort of sworn off of CDs, but there is something about browsing in a music store that is hard to sacrifice. So I find myself often making a detour to visit "CD Spins" on Newbury Street, "Newbury Comics" or some of the basement level independant shops on Mass Ave. Just recently I bought these CDs in the "Garage" on Harvard Square:Art Blakey - A Night at BirdlandJohn Coltrane - DakarWeather Report - Heavy WeatherIt may seem that I am a big Jazz fan, and in fact I am, but I like all kinds of music (as long as it is not "Top 10"). When I was in Vienna recently I bought "Wagner's Lohengrin" and I cannot get enough of that.If you love music like I do, share your thoughts, share your music with me. I think it is actually legal according to the RIAA if you share music with friends and family:"Our view has always been if the copyright holder wants to give away their product, it's fine. The key issue is that it's their choice to give it away." -Hilary B. Rosen, then-chairman and CEO of the Recording Industry Association of America, quoted in "Two Labels Warm Up to MP3's" by Bill Werde, The New York Times, May 29, 2003
